Autumn is one of the best times to have your car professionally detailed and ceramic coated because it allows you to address existing paintwork defects, remove accumulated contamination and apply long-term protection before winter’s harsher conditions arrive. With road salt, grit, rain and prolonged moisture exposure on the way, preparing your vehicle in advance can help preserve its appearance, protect vulnerable surfaces and make ongoing maintenance considerably easier throughout the colder months.

At Eryx Auto Styling, we recommend preparing your vehicle before winter rather than waiting until the effects of the season have already taken their toll. Professional detailing and ceramic coating work together to improve the condition of your vehicle’s paintwork and provide a protective foundation against the environmental challenges that come with British winter driving.

Why Is Autumn the Ideal Time for Professional Car Detailing?

Throughout spring and summer, your vehicle is exposed to road contamination, insect residue, bird droppings, tree sap, UV exposure and general wear from everyday driving. While some of these contaminants may not be immediately obvious, they can accumulate on the paintwork and affect its appearance and condition over time.

Autumn provides an opportunity to assess and address these issues before winter introduces additional challenges. A professional detailing treatment can involve thorough decontamination, paintwork assessment and appropriate correction, creating a suitable foundation for the application of protective coatings. Rather than allowing existing contamination and defects to remain throughout another season, preparing the vehicle in advance helps establish a better starting point for winter maintenance.

What Does Winter Actually Do to Your Car’s Paintwork?

British winters can be particularly demanding on vehicles, even when temperatures remain relatively mild. Road salt, grit, mud, rain and prolonged exposure to moisture can all contribute to contamination and deterioration, particularly when these substances are allowed to remain on the vehicle for extended periods. Road salt is especially concerning because it can accelerate corrosion where metal is exposed, while grit and road debris can contribute to stone chips and surface damage.

Lower panels, wheel arches, alloy wheels and other vulnerable areas are frequently exposed to these conditions during everyday driving. Although some damage may be immediately visible, other effects develop gradually. Regular exposure to winter contamination can make ongoing maintenance more challenging, particularly when the vehicle hasn’t been appropriately prepared and protected beforehand.

Why Should You Apply Ceramic Coating Before Winter?

Ceramic coating is one of the most effective ways to make exterior vehicle maintenance more manageable during winter. When professionally applied to correctly prepared paintwork, a quality ceramic coating forms a durable protective layer that offers resistance against certain environmental contaminants while helping preserve the finish underneath.

One of its main benefits is its hydrophobic behaviour, which encourages water to bead and move away from the surface more readily. This can help reduce the adhesion of road grime and make contamination easier to remove during regular maintenance, particularly when your vehicle is frequently exposed to wet roads and winter conditions.

However, ceramic coating isn’t a substitute for ongoing care and doesn’t make paintwork immune to scratches, stone chips or corrosion. Its benefits are best realised when the coating is applied to properly prepared surfaces and maintained using appropriate techniques throughout the year.

Why Is Paint Preparation So Important Before Ceramic Coating?

A ceramic coating is only as good as the preparation beneath it, which is why professional detailing should be considered an essential part of the protection process rather than an optional extra. Before applying ceramic protection, the paintwork needs to be assessed for contamination, swirl marks, scratches, oxidation and other imperfections. Depending on the condition of the vehicle, this may involve specialist decontamination and an appropriate level of machine polishing or paint correction to achieve the desired finish.

Applying ceramic coating without addressing existing defects can leave those imperfections visible beneath the protection. At Eryx Auto Styling, we inspect each vehicle before recommending a treatment because no two cars arrive in exactly the same condition, even when they’re brand new. Our objective is to establish the appropriate foundation before applying protection, rather than simply coating the paintwork in whatever condition it happens to be in.

Should You Protect Your Alloy Wheels and Glass Before Winter Too?

Paintwork isn’t the only part of your vehicle exposed to challenging winter conditions. Alloy wheels and glass also benefit from appropriate preparation and protection, particularly when road salt, brake dust, rain and contamination become more persistent. Alloy wheels are regularly exposed to brake dust, road grime and salt contamination, which can be particularly problematic when the wheel finish is already damaged. Suitable protective coatings can help reduce the adhesion of certain contaminants and make ongoing maintenance easier, although they cannot prevent corrosion where the underlying finish has been compromised.

Glass coatings offer another benefit during wet weather by encouraging rainwater to disperse more readily from treated surfaces. This can support visibility in suitable driving conditions, although it doesn’t replace properly functioning windscreen wipers or regular glass maintenance. At Eryx Auto Styling, our protection treatments can extend beyond the paintwork to include glass and alloy wheels, allowing us to recommend a more comprehensive solution based on the condition of your vehicle and how you use it.

Can Professional Detailing Help Prevent Expensive Repairs?

Maintaining your vehicle’s condition can help reduce the likelihood of certain avoidable issues developing into more expensive problems. Contamination left on exterior surfaces, neglected paint defects and damaged protective finishes can all contribute to deterioration over time. Professional detailing allows these areas to be assessed and addressed before further protection is applied. While ceramic coating cannot prevent every type of damage, combining appropriate correction, preparation and protection with regular maintenance can help preserve the condition of your vehicle and reduce unnecessary deterioration.

For owners of performance, prestige and high-value vehicles, protecting the original finish can be particularly important. However, the same principle applies to any vehicle you intend to keep in good condition over the longer term. Investing in professional detailing isn’t simply about improving how your car looks when you collect it. It’s about maintaining its condition and protecting the investment you’ve already made.

Does Your Car Still Need Maintenance After Ceramic Coating?

Absolutely. Although ceramic coatings make ongoing maintenance easier, they don’t eliminate the need to remove road salt, grime and other contaminants regularly. During winter, contamination can accumulate quickly, particularly around the lower sections of the vehicle, wheel arches and alloy wheels. Allowing these substances to remain on surfaces for extended periods can undermine the benefits of protective treatments and increase the risk of deterioration in vulnerable areas.

At Eryx Auto Styling, we offer an ongoing Aftercare Plan for clients who want their vehicles professionally maintained throughout the year. Our approach uses appropriate maintenance methods and products suited to the protection already applied, helping preserve the condition and appearance of the vehicle beyond its initial treatment.

Why Choose a Professional Detailer for Winter Protection?

The effectiveness of a ceramic coating depends on much more than the product itself. Correct preparation, application conditions, technical knowledge and experience all influence the quality and longevity of the finished result.

At Eryx Auto Styling, our specialist studio in Beckenham provides a controlled environment for paint correction and ceramic coating application. Our inspection process allows us to assess the vehicle under specialist lighting, identify defects and recommend a bespoke treatment based on its condition, your expectations and the budget you want to invest.

Our pricing reflects the experience, knowledge, professional equipment and standard of workmanship involved in delivering that service. We don’t believe in applying the same treatment to every vehicle because the appropriate level of preparation and protection should always be determined by the individual car.

Is It Worth Detailing and Ceramic Coating Your Car Before Winter?

If you want to preserve your vehicle’s appearance, make winter maintenance easier and provide suitable protection against environmental contamination, autumn is an excellent time to invest in professional detailing and ceramic coating.

Preparing your vehicle before the colder months allows existing defects and contamination to be assessed, appropriate correction to be carried out and protective treatments to be applied before winter road conditions become more demanding.

Whether your vehicle requires a relatively straightforward enhancement or more extensive paint correction and protection, the most effective approach begins with understanding its current condition and what you want to achieve.

Don’t wait for winter to take its toll on your vehicle! Book an inspection with Eryx Auto Styling or call or WhatsApp us on 020 8050 4077 to discuss your detailing and ceramic coating options.

Ceramic coating and Paint Protection Film (PPF) both protect your vehicle, but they protect it in different ways: ceramic coating primarily protects the surface against environmental contamination while PPF provides a physical barrier against damage such as stone chips and light abrasions. Which one your vehicle needs depends on how you use it, the level of protection you expect, the areas most vulnerable to damage and the budget you want to invest in protecting it.

At Eryx Auto Styling, we don’t automatically recommend one over the other because there isn’t a single solution that’s right for every vehicle. For some clients ceramic coating is the appropriate choice, for others PPF provides the protection they need, while some vehicles benefit from a combination of both.

What Does Ceramic Coating Actually Do?

A ceramic coating is a liquid protective product applied to a properly prepared surface where it bonds to the vehicle’s paintwork. Once applied and cured, it creates a durable protective layer that can help defend the surface against environmental contamination while making the vehicle easier to maintain. One of the characteristics people associate most strongly with ceramic coating is its hydrophobic behaviour. Water beads and moves away from the surface more readily, while contamination is generally easier to remove during appropriate ongoing maintenance.

Ceramic coatings can also enhance the appearance of properly prepared paintwork, adding gloss and helping to preserve the finish achieved during the correction and preparation stages. However, ceramic coating has limitations, and understanding them is important before deciding whether it’s the protection you need.

Ceramic Coating Doesn’t Make Your Car Scratch-Proof

Despite some of the claims you may have seen online, ceramic coating isn’t an invisible shield that makes paintwork immune to damage. It doesn’t prevent stone chips and it won’t protect the vehicle from every scratch, impact or poor maintenance technique. This is why we’re careful about how ceramic protection is explained to our clients.

A quality coating applied professionally can be an excellent investment, but it needs to be purchased for what it actually does rather than because of unrealistic promises about what it might do. If protection against physical impact is one of your biggest concerns, this is where PPF becomes particularly relevant.

What Is Paint Protection Film?

Paint Protection Film is a transparent film applied directly over the vehicle’s painted surfaces to create a physical protective barrier. Unlike ceramic coating, there is an actual layer of material sitting between the outside world and your paintwork. PPF is particularly useful on areas that are vulnerable to stone chips and road debris, such as the front bumper, bonnet, front wings and wing mirrors.

This can make it especially valuable for performance cars, prestige vehicles, new cars and vehicles that regularly cover significant motorway mileage. Modern high-quality PPF is designed to protect the paintwork while remaining discreet, allowing the original finish of the vehicle to remain visible underneath.

The Biggest Difference: Chemical Protection vs Physical Protection

The easiest way to understand the difference between ceramic coating and PPF is to think about the type of protection each product provides. Ceramic coating is primarily about protecting and preserving the surface. It can provide resistance against environmental contamination and make ongoing maintenance easier while helping to maintain the appearance of properly prepared paintwork.

PPF provides a thicker physical barrier. When stones, road debris or other light impacts reach the protected area, the film is designed to take that impact before it reaches the original paintwork beneath. Neither product makes a vehicle indestructible, but they perform very different jobs.

Do You Need to PPF the Entire Car?

Not necessarily, and this is where a bespoke approach becomes important. Full-body PPF offers a very high level of physical paint protection, but it isn’t automatically necessary for every client or every vehicle. Your driving habits, type of vehicle, intended ownership period and budget should all influence the decision.

For example, someone who owns a high-value performance car and wants to preserve as much of the original paintwork as possible may decide that full PPF is worthwhile. Another client may use their vehicle daily and decide that protecting the most vulnerable front-facing areas provides the right balance between protection and investment. Rather than automatically recommending the most extensive option available, we look at how the vehicle will actually be used and what you’re trying to protect it from.

Can You Have Ceramic Coating and PPF Together?

Yes, and for some vehicles this can provide an excellent combination. PPF can be installed on the areas most vulnerable to physical damage, while ceramic protection can be used as part of a wider protection strategy across the vehicle. Depending on the products and installation, ceramic protection can also be applied to appropriate PPF surfaces.

This allows you to combine the physical protection benefits of film with the characteristics associated with ceramic protection. It doesn’t mean every vehicle needs both. The purpose of an inspection and consultation is to establish whether combining them provides genuine value for your particular vehicle.

What About a Brand New Car?

A new car is an ideal time to start thinking about protection, but new doesn’t automatically mean the paintwork is ready for ceramic coating or PPF. Vehicles can acquire swirl marks, scratches, contamination, water spotting and other imperfections during transportation, storage and dealership preparation. Protecting the vehicle without first assessing its condition can mean protecting defects that should have been addressed beforehand.

At Eryx Auto Styling, we inspect the paintwork before recommending the appropriate preparation and protection. Depending on its condition, even a brand-new vehicle may benefit from paint correction or other preparation before long-term protection is installed. This is also why we recommend speaking to us before your new vehicle is prepared by the dealership whenever possible.

Preparation Matters With Both

Whether you choose ceramic coating, PPF or a combination of the two, the condition of the vehicle beforehand matters. Long-term protection shouldn’t be viewed as something that simply gets applied over whatever condition the paintwork happens to be in. Professional preparation allows us to identify defects, contamination and any areas requiring additional attention before protection is installed.

Depending on the vehicle, this could involve paint correction or addressing other imperfections to achieve the appropriate foundation for the protection being applied. You’re investing in more than the product itself. You’re investing in the assessment, preparation, expertise and workmanship required to achieve the finished result.

Which Protection Is Right for Your Vehicle?

If your priority is gloss, easier ongoing maintenance and protection against environmental contamination, ceramic coating may provide what you’re looking for. If stone chips and physical damage are your primary concern, particularly on vulnerable areas of the vehicle, PPF is likely to be the more appropriate solution.

For clients wanting a more comprehensive approach, combining the two may provide the balance of protection they’re looking for. However, the right answer depends on the individual vehicle rather than simply choosing whichever product is more expensive or has the longest list of advertised benefits. How often you drive, where you drive, how long you intend to own the vehicle, its value, its current condition and how important preserving the original paintwork is to you should all form part of that decision.

Protect the Vehicle Based on How You Actually Use It

There isn’t a universal answer to the ceramic coating vs PPF question because vehicle protection should be tailored to the vehicle and its owner. The best solution is the one that protects against the risks your vehicle genuinely faces while delivering the outcome you want from your investment.

At Eryx Auto Styling, that’s why we start by understanding the vehicle rather than simply selling a protection package. We can assess its condition, discuss how you use it and recommend ceramic coating, PPF or a combination based on what will genuinely benefit your car.

Not sure whether your vehicle needs ceramic coating, PPF or both? Book an inspection with Eryx Auto Styling or contact us by phone or WhatsApp to discuss the right protection for your vehicle.

Before agreeing to a dealership ceramic coating package with your new car, you need to understand exactly what preparation is being carried out before that coating is applied. A ceramic coating can provide excellent protection but the quality of the finished result depends heavily on the condition and preparation of the paintwork underneath it and a brand new vehicle isn’t automatically defect-free simply because it hasn’t yet left the dealership.

At Eryx Auto Styling, we believe ceramic protection should be the final stage of a properly considered process rather than an optional extra added to a vehicle during the sales process. Before we recommend protection, we want to understand the condition of the vehicle, identify any defects and establish what preparation is required to achieve the result our client is expecting.

Your Brand New Car May Already Have Paint Defects

There’s a common assumption that a vehicle coming directly from a dealership should have flawless paintwork. Unfortunately, a new registration plate and a handful of delivery miles doesn’t tell you what has happened to the vehicle before you receive the keys.

Before collection, your car has been manufactured, transported, stored and handled multiple times. During that journey it may have picked up contamination, water spotting, light scratches or other defects and some vehicles may also have undergone remedial work before reaching their first owner.

Dealership preparation can potentially introduce further imperfections too. Poor preparation techniques or inappropriate contact with the paintwork can leave swirl marks and light scratches on a vehicle that hasn’t even been handed over to its owner yet. This is why we assess the actual condition of the paintwork rather than assuming that a new vehicle is automatically ready for protection.

Ceramic Coating Doesn’t Correct Your Paintwork

Ceramic coatings are often marketed around their protection, gloss and hydrophobic properties but it’s equally important to understand what a coating isn’t designed to do. A ceramic coating doesn’t remove swirl marks, correct scratches or repair existing paint defects which means those imperfections can remain visible underneath the protection once it has been applied.

The coating should therefore be considered the final protective stage rather than the solution to everything that came before it. When you’re applying protection designed to remain on a vehicle for an extended period, the preparation underneath it matters enormously. At Eryx, the question isn’t simply, “Which coating are we applying?” We first want to establish what the vehicle needs before it’s ready for that coating to be applied.

The Product Isn’t the Whole Service

Comparing ceramic coating packages purely by product name, price or claimed durability can be misleading because the coating itself is only one element of the overall service. What happens before the bottle is opened can have a significant impact on the finished result. A professional ceramic coating service can involve inspecting the vehicle, safely decontaminating the surfaces, assessing the paintwork, carrying out the appropriate level of correction, preparing the surface correctly and finally applying the protection in suitable conditions.

The knowledge, experience and workmanship behind those stages are part of what you’re investing in. A premium coating applied to poorly prepared paintwork doesn’t suddenly produce a premium result. At Eryx, we would rather invest the necessary time into getting the vehicle properly prepared for protection than rely on the coating itself to sell the service.

Ask What “Preparation” Actually Means

When a dealership offers you a ceramic coating, don’t be afraid to ask exactly what is included before agreeing to the package. Ask how the vehicle will be prepared, whether the paintwork will be professionally inspected and whether defects will be identified before the coating is applied. It’s also worth asking whether paint correction is included where required, who will actually apply the coating, what experience they have, which coating is being used and what ongoing maintenance will be necessary.

These questions matter because the phrase “prepared before application” can mean very different things depending on who is carrying out the work. A professional should be able to explain the entire process and why each stage is necessary rather than relying solely on the headline benefits of the coating to make the sale.

Be Careful With Big Claims

Ceramic coating can be an excellent investment when it’s appropriate for the vehicle and applied correctly but it isn’t an invisible forcefield around your car. It won’t make your vehicle scratch-proof, remove the need for maintenance or prevent every stone chip and form of physical damage.

Your vehicle will still become dirty and contaminated over time and it will still require appropriate ongoing care. Understanding those limitations doesn’t diminish the value of ceramic protection; instead, it gives you realistic expectations about what you’re actually investing in and how to look after it properly. When ceramic protection is being sold using claims that sound too good to be true, ask more questions before signing on the dotted line.

Should You Let the Dealership Prepare Your New Car?

If you’re planning to have a new vehicle professionally detailed and protected after purchase, it’s worth speaking to your chosen detailer before you collect the car. Depending on the circumstances, they may recommend asking the dealership not to carry out its usual cosmetic preparation before handover.

Reducing unnecessary contact with the paintwork gives your professional detailer greater control over how the vehicle is initially assessed and prepared. At Eryx, we can then inspect the paintwork properly under specialist lighting, identify any existing defects and discuss the appropriate preparation and protection based on what the vehicle actually needs. This can be particularly important when you’ve invested in a performance, prestige or high-value vehicle and want to establish the best possible starting point for its long-term appearance and protection.

Ceramic Coating or PPF?

Ceramic coating isn’t necessarily the only form of protection you should consider. If your priority is protecting paintwork against physical damage such as stone chips, Paint Protection Film (PPF) may be a more appropriate option for vulnerable areas of the vehicle.

For some clients, a combination of PPF and ceramic protection can provide a more comprehensive solution with each product performing a different role. The right approach depends on the vehicle, how it’s used, your expectations, your budget and the level of protection you’re looking to achieve. This is another reason we don’t automatically prescribe the same protection package to every vehicle that comes through our doors.

Why We Inspect Before Recommending Protection

At Eryx Auto Styling, we’re not interested in selling you a ceramic coating simply because you’ve bought a new car. We want to understand the vehicle first and establish whether ceramic coating, PPF or another approach is the most appropriate solution for what you’re trying to achieve.

Our inspection process allows us to assess the paintwork under specialist lighting, identify defects or areas requiring attention and understand your expectations. From there, we can recommend the appropriate preparation, correction and protection rather than simply applying a product because it happens to be included within a package. Our approach is bespoke because the vehicle in front of us determines the work we recommend.

Protect Your Paintwork Properly From the Beginning

Buying a new vehicle is a significant investment so it makes sense to think carefully about how that vehicle is prepared and protected from day one. Don’t assume that because a ceramic coating is being offered by the dealership, the paintwork underneath it has automatically received the level of preparation required to achieve the result you’re expecting.

Ask what’s being applied, who is applying it and exactly what preparation is included beforehand. When you’re investing in long-term protection, understanding what you’re actually paying for is far more important than simply ticking another option on the order form.

Choose Expertise, Not Just a Price

Before handing over your vehicle, take some time to ask questions, look at previous work and understand the process being recommended. A professional should be able to explain not only what they intend to do but why they believe it’s the right approach for your particular vehicle.

At Eryx Auto Styling, we don’t position ourselves as a budget detailing service nor do we compete to provide the lowest quotation. Our pricing reflects the experience, knowledge, workmanship and level of attention we bring to every vehicle. For clients who value those things, the decision is about much more than finding someone who can perform a service for the lowest possible price.

Buying a new car? Before agreeing to the dealership’s protection package, book an inspection with Eryx Auto Styling or contact us to discuss the right protection for your vehicle.

The detailing industry has grown enormously but the term “professional detailer” isn’t necessarily a guarantee of experience, skill or quality. A professional detailer should be able to assess your vehicle properly, explain what it needs and why, manage your expectations and demonstrate that they have the knowledge, environment and processes required to work safely on your vehicle.

A polished Instagram page, expensive products or owning a machine polisher doesn’t necessarily tell you any of that. If you’re trusting someone with your vehicle, particularly for paint correction, ceramic protection or more extensive work, there are several things worth looking for before deciding who to hand your keys to.

They Want to Understand Your Vehicle Before Promising Results

One of the first signs of a professional approach is someone who asks questions before giving you answers. Every vehicle is different, and factors such as paint condition, previous repairs, scratches, swirl marks, oxidation and other defects can all influence what can safely and realistically be achieved. Your expectations matter too because the result one owner wants may be completely different from another.

A professional detailer should therefore want to understand the condition of the vehicle and the result you’re looking for before recommending a treatment. This is exactly why we have an inspection process at Eryx Auto Styling. We’re not interested in prescribing the same treatment to every car that comes through the door; we want to understand the vehicle, its condition and its owner first.

They Can Explain What They’re Doing and Why

You shouldn’t need to understand every technical aspect of detailing to have confidence in the individual working on your vehicle. A good professional should be able to explain what they’ve identified, what they recommend doing about it and why they believe that approach is appropriate. If there are limitations to what can safely be achieved, they should be honest about those too.

Professional detailing is a skilled service and the price should reflect the expertise, experience, time and level of workmanship involved. When you’re comparing services, it’s important to understand what sits behind the quotation rather than simply comparing the final figures. The preparation involved, the experience of the person carrying out the work, the time dedicated to your vehicle, the working environment and the standard of the finished result all contribute to the value of the service.

They Don’t Promise to Remove Every Scratch

It can be tempting to assume that the best detailer is the individual promising to remove every single defect but this isn’t necessarily the case. Paint correction involves carefully removing a microscopic amount of the clear coat to reduce or eliminate visible defects which means there are limits to how far correction should safely be taken.

Some scratches and defects may simply be too deep to remove through machine polishing alone. Continuing to chase a defect isn’t always in the best interests of the vehicle and an experienced detailer should recognise when another repair method would be more appropriate. Sometimes one of the clearest signs of professionalism is knowing when to stop rather than promising something that shouldn’t safely be achieved.

Look Beyond the Before-and-After Photos

The environment in which detailed paint correction and ceramic coating work takes place can make a considerable difference. Appropriate lighting allows paint defects to be properly identified and assessed while a suitable studio environment gives the detailer the conditions required to carry out correction and protection work consistently.

At our Beckenham studio, we use specialist lighting to expose paint defects that can be difficult to see under everyday lighting conditions. This allows us to assess what is actually happening with the paintwork rather than relying solely on what appears visible outside, where weather and natural light can easily disguise imperfections.

Ask About Their Experience

Experience matters, particularly when someone is carrying out work on your paintwork that cannot simply be undone. A professional should be comfortable discussing their background, the type of work they regularly undertake and the experience they have working with different vehicles, paint finishes and defects.

At Eryx Auto Styling, our Lead Detailer and Founder Erik previously worked as an in-house detailer for McLaren where working around high-value vehicles and exacting standards formed part of his everyday environment. That doesn’t mean someone needs to have worked for a supercar manufacturer to be a good detailer but you should feel comfortable asking about their experience before deciding whether they’re the right person to work on your vehicle.

Professional Detailing Isn’t About Who Uses the Most Expensive Products

The products a detailer uses are important but they’re ultimately tools in the hands of the person carrying out the work. Buying an expensive ceramic coating doesn’t automatically make someone an experienced coating installer, just as owning professional tools doesn’t automatically make someone an experienced mechanic.

Preparation, technique, knowledge and judgement all influence the quality of the finished result. This is particularly important with ceramic coatings because the appearance of the vehicle after application is heavily influenced by what happened before the coating was applied. If paintwork requires correction or additional preparation, simply covering it with an expensive coating isn’t going to resolve the defects underneath.

They Should Be Willing to Tell You When Something Isn’t Necessary

Professional advice shouldn’t always result in you spending more money. There will be occasions when a client requests something that isn’t necessary, won’t produce the result they’re expecting or simply isn’t the best use of their budget and a professional should be comfortable explaining that and recommending a more appropriate alternative.

Equally, detailing isn’t the solution to every defect. An area may be better suited to SMART repair, paintless dent removal, minor bodywork or another specialist treatment rather than repeatedly trying to correct something through detailing alone. The objective should be achieving the right outcome for the vehicle, not simply adding another service to the invoice.

They Care About What Happens After You Leave

Professional detailing shouldn’t end the moment you collect your vehicle. If you’ve invested in paint correction, ceramic protection or PPF, the way the vehicle is looked after afterwards can have a significant effect on its appearance and the longevity of the work carried out.

A professional detailer should therefore explain how to maintain the vehicle correctly and what ongoing care may be required. This is particularly important with ceramic coatings which can offer excellent protection but don’t make a vehicle maintenance-free, scratch-proof or incapable of becoming contaminated. If you’re being promised otherwise, it’s worth asking more questions.

Price Reflects More Than the Time Spent on Your Vehicle

There can be a significant difference in price between detailing businesses but there can also be a significant difference in what you’re actually paying for. A professional detailer’s pricing isn’t based solely on the number of hours your vehicle spends in the studio. You’re also paying for years of experience, specialist knowledge, professional equipment, an appropriate working environment and the judgement required to know how your particular vehicle should be treated.

At Eryx Auto Styling, our pricing reflects the standard of service we provide and the experience behind it. Our Lead Detailer and Founder, Erik’s background includes working as an in-house detailer for McLaren and that level of experience and attention to detail forms part of the standard we continue to work to today.

When comparing quotations, the question shouldn’t simply be “Who can do it for less?” It should be “What am I actually receiving for my investment?” Two quotations may appear to describe the same service on paper while representing very different levels of preparation, expertise, workmanship and aftercare.

Choosing professional detailing purely on price can ultimately become expensive if poor technique creates additional defects or work has to be corrected later. Your vehicle is an investment and the standard of the person entrusted to work on it should be part of that decision.

If you value experience, expertise and exceptional workmanship when it comes to your vehicle, book an inspection with Eryx Auto Styling to discuss what you want to achieve.

At Eryx Auto Styling, we insist on a vehicle inspection before providing an accurate quotation because no two vehicles are the same and neither are the results their owners want to achieve. Whether you are looking for detailing, paint correction, ceramic protection, repairs, minor bodywork or vehicle customisation, we offer a bespoke solution specific to your vehicle and make recommendations based on its condition, your expectations and your budget.

An inspection gives us the opportunity to properly understand what we are working with before recommending a treatment. Instead of trying to fit every vehicle into the same package, we can establish what your vehicle actually needs, what you want to achieve and how far you would like to take it.

Every Vehicle Has Different Defects

Two vehicles of the same age, make and model can have completely different requirements. One may have relatively minor imperfections while another could have swirl marks, deeper scratches, oxidation, water spotting, stone chips, evidence of poor previous machine polishing or earlier repairs.

There may also be dents, damaged trim, scuffed alloys, minor bodywork or other areas that require attention. Seeing the vehicle in person allows us to assess these areas properly and determine what can realistically be improved, corrected, repaired or restored before we provide a quotation.

The Desired Result Is Different for Every Client

The condition of the vehicle is only one part of the equation because every owner has a different reason for coming to us. Some clients want to significantly rejuvenate a vehicle they have owned for years, while others have recently purchased a used car and want to address particular defects or protect their investment.

You may simply want to improve the overall appearance of your daily vehicle, prepare a car for sale or bring a much-loved vehicle as close to its best possible condition as you can. During the inspection, we can discuss what bothers you about the vehicle, which areas are most important to you and the overall result you would like us to achieve.

Your Budget Determines How Far We Take the Vehicle

There is rarely only one way to approach a vehicle. The amount of correction, repair, protection or enhancement we recommend will depend on both its condition and how far you want to take the finished result.

Your budget is therefore an important part of the conversation. Rather than assuming every client wants the maximum amount of work possible, we can identify where your budget is best spent and prioritise the areas that will make the greatest difference to the vehicle and the outcome you want.

This is one of the reasons an accurate quotation cannot always be provided from a few photographs or a brief description of the car.

New Doesn’t Always Mean Defect-Free

One of the most common misconceptions we encounter is that a brand-new vehicle should arrive with flawless paintwork. In reality, a new car can already have defects before it reaches its first owner due to transportation, storage, handling and preparation before collection.

We regularly see new and nearly new vehicles with swirl marks, light scratches, water spotting and other paint imperfections. This is why being new doesn’t automatically mean a vehicle is ready for long-term protection without first being properly assessed and prepared.

Ceramic Coatings Require the Right Preparation

Ceramic coatings are frequently sold alongside new vehicles, particularly by dealerships but the quality of the finished result depends heavily on the preparation carried out before the coating is applied. A ceramic coating is designed to protect the surface; it doesn’t correct existing paint defects.

If imperfections or contamination are already present, applying a coating without addressing them first can leave those issues underneath the protection. This is why our approach isn’t simply to sell and apply a coating. We first assess the condition of the paintwork, determine the preparation or correction required and then recommend the appropriate protection for the vehicle.

Our Service Goes Beyond Detailing

Eryx Auto Styling isn’t limited to detailing, which is another important reason our inspection process forms such a central part of how we work. Depending on your requirements, your vehicle may benefit from paint correction and ceramic protection alongside repairs, minor bodywork or customisation.

You may already know exactly what you would like us to address or we may identify additional areas during the inspection that are worth considering. Looking at the vehicle as a whole means we can create one bespoke plan based around your priorities rather than treating every requirement as an unrelated service.

Why We Don’t Believe in One-Size-Fits-All Quotes

Providing a quotation without properly understanding the vehicle can mean recommending work that isn’t necessary or failing to account for something that needs additional attention. Neither approach benefits the client, which is why we prefer to understand the vehicle and the desired result before advising you on the most appropriate way forward.

Ultimately, you aren’t simply choosing a detailing package. You’re deciding how far you want to take your vehicle and our job is to understand where it is now, where you want it to be and the most appropriate route to get it there.

Book an inspection with Eryx Auto Styling or speak to us directly by phone or WhatsApp to discuss your vehicle.
